Carlene was born August 7, 1938 in Osmond, Nebraska to Carl and Ella (Falter) Nissen. She spent her childhood on the farm until her family moved to Plainview, Nebraska where she graduated from Plainview High School in 1956. She attended Wayne State College for one year. Carlene married John R. Bowen on May 26, 1957. They later divorced. They lived in Plainview where she worked as a nurse’s aide for twelve years at the Plainview Hospital. They moved to Fremont in 1970 where she worked at the now Fremont Health Medical Center for many years. During that time Carlene attended Platte College in Columbus and then Midland Lutheran College in Fremont where she earned her BSN and Master’s degree in Nursing. She worked as a Resident Care Manager of the 300 Unit at Merrick Manor in Fremont for twelve years. She enjoyed ceramics, crocheting, knitting, Bingo, playing cards, fishing, and traveling. Carlene was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Fremont. She was very active in her Church Circle and bible study groups. She is survived by daughters, Dawn (Jeff) Bussey of Albion, Mariella (John) Lasaitis of Fort Collins, Colorado, Kirsten(Mike)Becker and Jennifer Lowe and special friend, Bobbie Nodean all of Fremont; son-in-law, Bill Chapman of Fremont; thirteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Jill Chapman; brothers, Lyle Nissen and Willis Nissen; and sister, Bernice Zobel. Funeral Service will be 9:30 A.M., Saturday, December 3, 2016 at The Presbyterian Church in Fremont. The Rev. Jon Ashley will officiate. Visitation will be Friday from 5 PM to 8 PM at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation will continue Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Ridge Cemetery in Fremont. Memorials are suggested to the family." Moser Memorial Chapel, 2170 N. Somers Ave., Fremont, NE 68025.
