Carlton is survived by his children, Wendy (Michael) and David (Jaya) and his grandchildren, Cristopher, Timothy, Janavi and Jamie, Meghan and Dayna and predeceased by his loving wife June. Carlton was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario and attended Normal Model High School. He volunteered into the Canadian Army in WWII where he served in the Royal Canadian Corps of signals. Dad arrived at Juno Beach Normandy approximately one week after the D-Day Invasion, and witnessed or participated in many hard fought battles against the German Army including: the defence of the Normandy Beachhead against numerous panzer attacks, the bombing of Caen, Operation Charnwood, Operation Atlantic, Operation Totalize, Falaise Gap, the Channel Ports Campaign, the capture of Calais, the attack on Leopold Canal, the Scheldt Campaign, the Invasion of Germany, the attack and capture of Moyland Forest and Moyland Castle, Emmerich, and many numerous battles to secure North Holland including Zutphen, Deventer and Zwolle; battles in which he took part as the Signals Officer of the Royal Regina Rifles. Dad was the Canadian Signaller overlooking Nijmegen Bridge a position held during the winter of 1944 to 1945. After, the Regina Rifles Relieved 101st airborne at Nijmegen Bridge; which Dad was fond of pointing out while watching his favourite movie, "A Bridge Too Far". During WWII Dad witnessed human catastrophe at the highest level, including the destruction by bombing raids of entire cities, populations of people reduced to poverty and starvation, the holocaust of ethnic groups and Canadian prisoners murdered in cold blood. Dad did not like military life, did not seek medals and promotions and quit the army "when the job was done" and returned to civilian life in 1946. He attended University of Toronto where he graduated with a masters of Chemical Engineering. He spent his professional life as a Chemical Engineer working at the Fisher Scientific Company in Montreal, Quebec for 35 years. Dad passed away quietly in his sleep, October 7, 2014 at Lakeshore General Hospital. Visitation and Funeral has taken place.
