Born May 28, 1922, in the Folly Grove community of Georgetown County, she was the daughter of the late A.B. and Lillian Euphemia Powell. Mrs. Cooper was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who enjoyed reading, painting, playing the piano, sewing, crocheting, writing short stories, and collecting angels. Mrs. Cooper was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who enjoyed reading, painting, playing the piano, sewing, crocheting, writing short stories, and collecting angels. In her youth, she sang on the radio with her sisters. She was a graduate of Pleasant Hill Consolidated Schools in Georgetown County, and Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Ga. Mrs. Cooper taught in Georgia and Georgetown County, S.C., schools and served as a civil servant at the Charleston Naval Shipyard during World War II. Survivors include son, Harry T. Cooper, Jr., Esq. (Carol) of Chapin; daughter, Linda Cooper Lewis (Dr. John) of Whiteville, N.C.; daughter, Virginia Cooper Richardson of Hemingway; son, Stuart A. Cooper (Suzy) of North Myrtle Beach; grandchildren, Oliver T. Cooper (Kristi), Jessica D. Cooper, PharmD, Rev. John M. Lewis (Regina), Dr. Kimberly Lewis Oncavage (Chris), Christina Lewis Hardwick, Esq. (Aaron), Holly Richardson Graham (Brock), and Tanya Cooper Chapman (Lee); nine great-grandchildren; sister, Sylvia Powell; brother, Edwin Powell; many loving nieces and nephews; and a special caregiver and friend, Gail Rodas. Mrs. Cooper was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Harry Tillman Cooper, Sr.; and her son, Charles Eugene Cooper. She was also predeceased by sisters, Lillian Powell, Doris Collins, Olive Libassi, and Vivian Hunt and brothers Clifford Powell, Eldridge Powell, Rudolph Powell, and Kenneth Powell. Funeral services, directed by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway, will be held 3:30 p.m. Friday, December 17, 2010 at Williams Hill Free Will Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, December 16, 2010, from 6 until 8 p.m.
