Description	:	Carol Ann (Johnson) Guthrie, 86 years of age, of Kearney, Nebraska, formerly of Odessa, Nebraska, went home to be with her Savior, on Friday, August 9, 2019 at CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney, surrounded by her family. Read More	Carol Ann (Johnson) Guthrie, 86 years of age, of Kearney, Nebraska, formerly of Odessa, Nebraska, went home to be with her Savior, on Friday, August 9, 2019 at CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney, surrounded by her family. Carol was born November 29, 1932, at Holdrege, the youngest of five children born to C.A. Leslie and Bessie A. (Johnson) Johnson. She received her primary education from District #45 rural school in Phelps County, and then attended Holdrege High School, graduating with the class of 1950. On May 22, 1955, she was united in marriage to John Henry “Jack” Guthrie at the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege. The couple were blessed with five children: Denise, Scott, Patty, Peggy and Nancy. The family made their home in Odessa, where Carol focused her efforts on caring for the children and the family home. In 1971, she began a longtime career for the United States Postal Service as Postmaster in Odessa, retiring in 1999. In November 2013, the couple began to make their home in Kearney. On May 22, 2019, the couple celebrated their 64th Wedding Anniversary. Carol was a faithful member of the Riverdale Christian Church in Riverdale, Nebraska and the Ragan Methodist Church in Ragan, Nebraska. She enjoyed reading, sewing, embroidery, puzzles, gardening, and Husker sports. Family time was most important to Carol. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many hours spent around the kitchen table playing cards with family and friends. She will be remembered for her generous heart; her sense of humor; and her love for Jesus. Above all, Carol has left a tremendous legacy of love to her husband, children, family, and friends. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by: her sister, Zola Maul and her three husbands, Warner Dahlgren, Don Farrell, and Emmett Maul, Sr.; two brothers: Laverne Johnson and his wife, Pauline; and Quinten Johnson and his wife, Marilyn; six sisters-in-law: Alberta Covey and husband, Albert; Garnett Covey and husband, Donald; Alpha Fries and husband, Wayne; Myrna Guthrie; Thelma Soderberg and her husband, Vern; and Geraldine “Gerry” Richards and her husbands, Millard Covey and Leland Richards; seven brothers-in-law: Dewitt Schroeder; LaVerne Guthrie and wife, Barbara; Omer Guthrie and wife, Wanda; Harold Guthrie; Neal Carlson; Clarence “Bud” Rogers; and Leroy Maxwell. She leaves to celebrate her life; her husband, Jack Guthrie of Christian Homes in Holdrege; her children: Denise Johnson and her husband, Roger of Wichita, Kansas; Scott Guthrie and his wife Cindy, of Kearney; Patty Rebman and her husband, Brad of Republican City, Nebraska; Peggy Rogers and her husband, Dave of Adams, Nebraska; and Nancy Guthrie of Kearney; 13 grandchildren: Brad Johnson and his wife, Hannah; Jessica Robinson and her husband, Ben; Chara Eckery and her husband, Dane; Elise Lush and her husband, Alex; Joshua Guthrie and his wife, Ashton; Seth Guthrie and his wife, Jennifer; Nathan Rogers and his wife, Elizabeth; Melody Rogers; Benjamin Rogers; Wendy Rogers; Paige Young and her husband, Spencer; Brett Rebman and his wife Alexis; and Bo Rebman; 18 great-grandchildren; her sister and best friend, Vearl Schroder of Holdrege; three sisters-in-law: Florence Maxwell of Denver, Colorado; Eleanor Rogers of Holbrook, Nebraska; and Linda Guthrie of Hastings, Nebraska; three brothers-in-law: Wayne Guthrie and his wife, Janice of Alma; Cecil Guthrie and his wife, Donna of Holdrege; and Dale Guthrie and his wife, Lou Ann of Ragan; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
