Description	:	Zola Rogene Maul, 90 of Kearney, formerly of Gibbon and Holdrege, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2019 at Lebensraum Assisted Living in Grand Island. Zola was born April 13, 1929 to Leslie and Bessie (Johnson) Johnson at Crandell Baby Center, Holdrege. She was baptized and confirmed at Holdrege United Methodist Church. Read More	Zola Rogene Maul, 90 of Kearney, formerly of Gibbon and Holdrege, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2019 at Lebensraum Assisted Living in Grand Island. Zola was born April 13, 1929 to Leslie and Bessie (Johnson) Johnson at Crandell Baby Center, Holdrege. She was baptized and confirmed at Holdrege United Methodist Church. She grew up helping her mother and grandmother on the Johnson family farm north of Holdrege. She attended rural school District 45 and graduated from Loomis High School in 1946. She met Warner Dahlgren in Holdrege at the roller skating rink, and they were married April 24, 1949. To this union four children were born: David, Douglas, Brenda, and Mindy. During the years Zola was raising her children, she found many activities to keep her busy. “Zo Original” exuded creativity and talent, and she did custom sewing which included making wedding dresses. She designed paper dolls, did many crafts, quilting, ceramic doll making, cake baking and decorating, participated in church choir, served as a camp counselor, bowling, and Flying Farmers. She was the “queen” of the Flying Farmers in 1966. She spent many summer hours swimming with her children in the irrigation canal near their home! She planned Halloween parties, served as a 4-H leader, and sang and played the piano for numerous events. In later years she found work outside the home at Lindsay Jewelry and Char’s Fabrics in Holdrege. Warner passed away on May 9, 1977. Zola married Don Farrell on April 15, 1978 and moved to Gibbon where they continued to be active in Flying Farmers and traveling, dancing, and playing cards. She participated in the Gibbon Methodist Church with choir and musical activities. One of the most memorable trips was to the Grand Canyon. Don passed away on October 7, 1983. Zola married Emmett Maul, Sr. on April 12, 1985, and they enjoyed golfing (she had a hole-in-one) and traveling to Arizona, where they eventually began to spend many winters over the years. Zola worked with Betty Rosenbaum, who was the activity director at Orangewood Shadows in Mesa, AZ, sharing her creative talents with the community. Zola continued to be active in Community Improvement Club, extension club, and pursuing her artistic talents with painting, teaching art classes, sewing, choir, and church activities. They moved into Kearney from the Gibbon El Charmin Lake in 2003. Emmett passed away on September 26, 2013. Survivors include: Sons: David (Mary Hock) Dahlgren, and Douglas (Sandy) Dahlgren, of Holdrege, Daughters: Brenda (Steve) Horn of Grand Island, and Mindy (Kevin) Burton of Lincoln. Step-sons: Denny (Vicki) Farrell, Curt (Kim) Farrell, and Lee (Beth) Farrell; Emmett (Carol Jean) Maul of Kearney, and Donnie (Susie) Maul of South Sioux City; Step-daughter: Donna Scoville of Weatherford, TX. Grandchildren, Tyson (Kylie) Horn of Seward; Tanner (Tara) Horn of Bellevue; Michael Dahlgren, Mark Dahlgren, both of Lincoln, Miles Scoville, Cami Scoville, both of Weatherford, TX, Emily (Jake) Schweitzer, Drake Burton, Aubrey Burton, all of Lincoln, John (Petrina) Maul, Joe (Mishelle) Maul, both of Kearney, Jennifer (Aaron) Schmitz of Lincoln, and Brad (Irene) Maul of Mt. Juliet, TN, Benjamin (Andrea) Jones of Dallas, TX; Calena (Andy) Ohlson, Holdrege; Sierra Jones, Scottsdale, AZ. Great grandchildren, Caydn, Logan, Rylan, Ella, and Averi Horn, Allie, Jaylee, and Greyson Horn, Dayton and Alyssa Maul, Gage and Erica Maul, Darek and Emlynn Schmitz, Baker and Brady Maul, Sophie and Aspen Jones, Alec and Aden Lovitt, Isabelle Ohlson; sisters, Carol (Jack) Guthrie of Kearney and Vearl Schroder of Holdrege, and special cousin and caregiver Connie Adams of Kearney. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. Zola was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Bessie Johnson, and her three husbands, Warner Dahlgren, Don Farrell, and Emmett Maul, Sr.; brothers: Lavern (Pauline) Johnson and Quentin (Marilyn) Johnson; brothers-in-law DeWitt Schroder and Wilbur (Jean) Dahlgren; step-daughter, Peggy Maul; nephews: Robert R. Johnson and Kent Schroder.
