Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Melody Adams officiating. Burial will be later. She chose cremation. O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Carol Arleen Roberts was born on May 11, 1928, in Allen to Richard S. and Ruth F. (Johnston) Roberts. She grew up in Allen and graduated from Allen High School in 1946. Arleen married Laverne C. Goodell on Sept. 29, 1946, in Allen. The couple lived in Allen until they moved to Ponca in 1951. They moved to Kearney, where they remained, in 1956. Arleen began to work at Grandpa’s Steakhouse in 1965 and retired in 1980. Her husband preceded her in death on April 7, 2001. She was a member of First United Methodist Church where she was active in the Women’s Society and loved listening to the bell choir. Laverne and Arleen ran the Coffee Corner at the church for more than 25 years. Arleen enjoyed sewing and reading, especially reading to her grandchildren. Most of all, Arleen loved spending time with her family, and she always looked forward to attending her grandchildren’s activities. She is survived by her three sons, Richard C. Goodell and wife Betty Jo, and Lynn A. Goodell and wife Judy, all of Kearney, and Kevin D. Goodell and wife Cathy of San Francisco; five grandchildren, Derek C. Goodell and Randi Hayden, and Daniel J. Goodell and Nikki Lewis, all of Kearney, Joshua L. Goodell, Jamisen L. Goodell and fiancé Alex Tran, and Jacobi Goodell, all of Omaha; six great-grandchildren, Arica E. Goodell, Lukas C. Goodell, Alex K. Wagner, Aubrie L. Hake, Jaxon Duran and Ronin J. Goodell; two sisters, Ardith E. Armour of Smithland, Iowa, and Sherrill Halsey and Jack Welsh of Earp, Calif.; and two brothers, Courtland Roberts and wife Darlene of Allen and Dallas Roberts and wife Janice of Wakefield. Arleen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Delmer Goodell; two brothers, Kendall Roberts and Dennis Roberts; three brothers-in-law, Myron Armour, Dwaine Halsey and Merle Book; and two sisters-in-law, Wilma and Bonnie Roberts.
