Description	:	Carol Jo Peterson was born in Jefferson, Iowa to Donald and Leola (Rapp) Peterson of Paton, Iowa. She was the younger sister of Joan Peterson. Joan and Carol's mother died of Hodgkin's Disease on April 6, 1951, just five months after Carol was born. The girls' father was unable to work and care for two young daughters, and so he entrusted them to his sister, Dorothy (Peterson) Severson and her husband Edward Severson. Read More	Carol Jo Peterson was born in Jefferson, Iowa to Donald and Leola (Rapp) Peterson of Paton, Iowa. She was the younger sister of Joan Peterson. Joan and Carol's mother died of Hodgkin's Disease on April 6, 1951, just five months after Carol was born. The girls' father was unable to work and care for two young daughters, and so he entrusted them to his sister, Dorothy (Peterson) Severson and her husband Edward Severson. They were raised in Thor, Iowa. Carol graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1968. She graduated from Immanuel School of Nursing in Omaha in 1972. Carol was a registered nurse for many years with the American Red Cross in Nebraska. She married James E. Martin in 1980 in Thor, Iowa. Carol died at age 56 on Friday, April 20 after being diagnosed with cancer just seven weeks earlier. Her untimely death leaves many family members, friends, co-workers and neighbors suffering in her loss. She is survived by her husband James E. Martin of Omaha; her daughters Carrie (Tim) Swift and Amy Martin both of Omaha, a step son Jason (Carrie Ann) of Underwood, IA; grandchildren Abbie Lynn and Hailey Ann of Underwood, IA; sister Joan Peterson Gillum (Larry) of Eagan, MN; her very special aunt Dorothy Severson of Eagle Grove, IA; many nieces, nephews and cousins including Dianne Spangler and Merry (Robert) Conaway of Eagle Grove, Kathy (Dan) Rice of Mound, MN; James Clark of Bakersfield, CA; Roger Clark of Mesa, AZ; Linda Pratt, Susan Sorenson, Mark Pratt and John Pratt all of Minneapolis and St. Paul, MN; Sally Rapp Beisser and John Rapp both of West Des Moines, IA; Marilynn Rapp Buxton of Waverly, IA. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her special Uncle Edward Severson; her aunts May Rapp Estlund, Mildred Rapp Clark, Myrtle Rapp Pratt and uncle Alvin Rapp, her cousins Robert and Garry Clark and Judy Rapp Bass. Services were held on April 25, 2007 at 10:30 am at Dworak-Cutler West Center Chapel at 78th and West Center St. in Omaha arranged by Heafey-Heafey-Hoffman-Dworak-Cutler. Visitation began on Tuesday at 3:00 pm with family receiving friends from 6-8 pm at West Center Chapel. Condolences were requested to be sent to her family at 5875 104th St.; Omaha, NE 68127.
