She was born Dec. 5, 1928, in Kokomo, to loving parents James William Johnson and Edith Mae (Edwards) Johnson. On Nov. 26, 1947, she was married in the rectory at St. Patrick by Monsignor Robert J. Halpen. Carol graduated from Kokomo High School in 1947 and worked at Continental Steel Corporation in the order and billing and payroll departments. Halpen. Carol graduated from Kokomo High School in 1947 and worked at Continental Steel Corporation in the order and billing and payroll departments. She retired in 1985 after 38-and-a-half years of service. At a young age, she was a member of Parr Methodist Church. After marrying Punchy, she joined St. Patrick Church. What she claims to be her most blessed and loving accomplishment in life was helping her son raise his four sons. As of this day, her son and the grandsons remain loving and faithful to her. She was blessed with many years of trips to Crystal Lake, Michigan, and being with her faithful friends there. She enjoyed Christian programs, watching sports on TV, taking and collecting many photographs, and she considered reading and writing poems a joyful gift and blessing. Carol has been faithful to tell friends why she loved the cardinal bird. She used to pray with friends on her kitchen phone, and after hanging up she would hear a cardinal singing right by her window. She felt it to be God telling her, “I have heard your prayer, and it shall be done.” To this day the cardinal continues to sing into her heart, and he is still by her kitchen window. “All Glory to God” are her words. Carol is survived by her husband Harold "Punchy" Cone, one son Thomas Cone, four grandsons, six great grandchildren; one sister Marcia Kennedy, and one brother-in-law, all of Kokomo. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Jean Sargaret. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1229 N. Washington St., with Rev. Fr. Michael McKinley the celebrant. Burial will follow in Kokomo Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends are invited to call from 11 a.m. until 12:50 p.m. Friday at the church.
