Description	:	Harold E. “Punchy” Cone, 88 of Kokomo, went to be with the Lord at 10:25a.m. Thursday, February 5, 2015 at St. Joseph Hospital. He was the last of 16 children born to his loving parents, Michael Leo and Matie (Fergus) Cone on October 18, 1926. Punchy married Carol J. Read More	Harold E. “Punchy” Cone, 88 of Kokomo, went to be with the Lord at 10:25a.m. Thursday, February 5, 2015 at St. Joseph Hospital. He was the last of 16 children born to his loving parents, Michael Leo and Matie (Fergus) Cone on October 18, 1926. Punchy married Carol J. Johnson on November 26, 1947 in the Parish Hall of St. Patrick Catholic Church by Msgr. Robert J. Halpin. Carol preceded him in death August 26, 2014 after 67 years of marriage. He was a life time member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. Punchy graduated from St. Patrick School where he was Altar Boy, Patrol Boy, and Boy Scout. Later in life he was in charge of the youth group for 8 years. He was always willing to serve and help on any occasion for St. Patrick such as popping popcorn at basketball games and taking basketball players to out of town games. He was elected to the Board of Directors for two years. He supervised CYO at the church for six years. Punchy was the sponsor of various softball teams for Punchy Texaco Station 1950-1953; Ralph & Punchy Marathon Station 1954-1959; and 36 years for Punchy Radiator softball team with Tom Gourley as manager. The team won many state championships, including a fifteen year stretch from 1961 to 1975 with a record of 202 wins and 13 losses. When the team played games at Foster Park, Punchy was always in attendance and operated a concession stand there. In 1985, Punchy was inducted into the Indiana Hall of Fame by the Amateur Softball Association of America in recognition of his outstanding career and his commitment to sponsoring which is the highest honor attainable in the Indiana A.S.A. Punchy began a boxing career while in high school, and then continued to box when he entered the Marines. He continued boxing when discharged from service with South Side Community Center in Indianapolis for one year. He was runner up for Indiana Golden Gloves in 1947 and won the AAA Championship of Indiana in that same year. He ended his boxing career proudly at the National Boxing Tournament at Boston Gardens in Massachusetts, sadly loosing the only bout of his career by KO. He served in the United States Marine Corp from 1945 through 1946 in the South Pacific during World War Two. Punchy sponsored the Kokomo boxing Club with Ed Baker. He and Ed went on to train one of the nations best light weight amateur fighters, Victor Levine in the early 1980’s, who was an Olympic hopeful. He was an avid fan of Notre Dame Football, having season tickets and never missing a game for many years throughout the 1990’s. He was also a Indiana Hoosier Basketball, and Kokomo Wildkat Basketball fan. He was generous with his jeep by shoveling snow for many residents’ private drive ways, business’ and the St. Patrick Church parking lot. Punchy was well known by his Pink Punchy Hat, Pink Jeep and Pink Radiator Shop. He owned and operated his Punchy Radiator Shop from 1960 to the day he died. Currently, his grandson Phillip, operates the shop with wisdom gained from Punchy after working beside him for 14 years. Punchy is survived by his son Thomas E. Cone, and four grandsons, Matthew Cone and wife Zira, Thomas J. Cone, Phillip Cone and wife Laura, and John Cone; six great grandsons, Noah Cone, Carter Cone, Truman Cone, Wayland Cone, Noland Cone, Jaxson Cone; one great Granddaughter, Zoe Detchon. Harold was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 67 years, Carol J. Cone; and nine brothers, Paul, Charles, LeRoy, John, Jospeh, William, Michael, James and Patrick; five sisters, Thelma Wines, Mary McKee, Gertrude Eppinghoff, Nellie Jones, Margaret Cone, and Elizabeth (Betty Ann) Hightower. God blessed Punchy with strength and wisdom to operate his Radiator Shop for many years. He was committed to serve all of his customers with honesty and favors. His labor of love will not be forgotten. He has been a loving husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend. Punchy loved the Lord and also everyone he helped was meant to serve the Lord. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1229 N. Washington Street, with the Rev. Fr. Michael McKinley officiating. Burial will follow in Kokomo Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors provided by the U.S. Marine Corps and the Kokomo V.F.W. Military Rites Team. Friends are invited to call from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, 414 W.
