Description	:	"Mrs. Herman (Caroline) Beethe of Elk Creek died at 10:00 o'clock Wednesday evening, December 10, 1958, in Mary's restorium at Tecumseh. She had enjoyed good health until August 11 of this year when she broke her hip. After this mishap, she was taken to the Johnson County Hospital in Tecumseh, and later to Mary's restorium. Her age was 94 years, 11 months and 18 days. Mrs. Beethe was born at Elk Crove, Illinois, December 22, 1863. Her age was 94 years, 11 months and 18 days. Mrs. Beethe was born at Elk Crove, Illinois, December 22, 1863. She was a daughter of William and Louise (Trute) Geweke, and was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter's Lutheran Church at Schaumburg, Illinois, and received her schooling in that community. At the age of 18, she preceded her parents in moving to the Elk Creek community. Here she was received into the home of a sister, Mrs. Conrad Koehler, and she worked in various homes up to the time of her marriage. Her marriage to Mr. Beethe of Elk Creek took place in St. Peter's Lutheran church near Elk Creek July 31, 1884. They were the parents of four children, three of whom survive. Mr. Beethe died November 18, 1923. She became a member of St. Peter's Lutheran church of Elk Creek, after moving there from Illinois. Preceding her in death besides her husband, were four sisters, Mrs. Conrad Koehler, Mrs. Henry Peters, Mrs. Henry Sodman and a three-year-old sister, Engel Geweke; four brothers, William, Henry, Fred and Herman Geweke. Surviving Mrs. Beethe are two sons, George Beethe of Yuma, Colo. and Ben Beethe of Elk Creek; and one daughter, Mrs. Carl (Katie) Krueger of Elk Creek. Funeral services were held in St. Peter's Lutheran church near Elk Creek, with Rev. J. Heins, pastor of the church, officiating. The pallbearers were Arthur Sodman, Henry Koehler, Gustav Peters, Louis Geweke and Raymond Gottula. Burial was in the church cemetery." Printed in The Tecumseh Chieftain, Dec. 18, 1958
