She grew up and received her elementary education at the rural school in Sinclair Township, North Dakota. Carolina Schroeder was born Aug. 4, 1909, near Gackle, N.D., the daughter of Jacob Schroeder and Fredricka (Spitzer) Schroeder. She grew up and received her elementary education at the rural school in Sinclair Township, North Dakota. On Nov. 19, 1928, she received a Diploma of Honor at the Madame Blanche Molleur Sewing School, Bismarck. She returned to Gackle, where she did sewing and domestic housework. She married Jacob Schmierer March 8, 1934, in Jamestown. They lived in Alexandria Township nine miles northeast of Gackle until 1944, when they bought a farm seven miles north of Gackle in the Sinclair Township. In 1951 they bought a house in Gackle. On Nov. 15, 1951 they moved into Gackle, where she worked in the creamer for a short time. She also worked at the cafe and did seamstress work. Following their retirement in 1965, they continued to live in Gackle. In 1984 they moved to Jamestown. In June 1986 they moved into Gackle Care Center. In January 1990, he entered Central Dakota Nursing Home. He died June 1, 1990. She continued to live in the care center until 1995, when she entered Hi-Acres Manor and resided there for a short time. She returned to Gackle in 1996, before returning to Hi-Acres Manor. In July 1997 she entered the Central Dakota Village, Jamestown. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. She was active in church work, serving on the church board, clerk, teacher, Sabbath School superintendent, Sabbath School secretary, Dorcas Leader and Missionary Volunteer leader. She is survived by two brothers, Jacob G. (Mary), Fort Collins, Colo., and Ben Schroeder, Aberdeen S.D.; and a sister, Ruth (Bill) Diede, Jamestown. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a daughter, Adelia, May 3, 1940; four brothers, Lorenz, William, Gideon and Rueben; four sisters, Rose, Rachel, Naomi and Mariam; and four sisters in infancy. Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, First United Church of Christ, Gackle, with the Rev. Dave Stuart officiating. Arrangements by Haut Funeral Home, Gackle. Burial: Gackle City Cemetery, Gackle.
