On Oct. 17, 1893, Carrie married James Henry McMahan (Sr.) in Prairie du Chien, WI, and they had two children prior to her death. The following North Iowa Times [date unknown] transcription explains why Carrie's death date of Oct. 10, 1897 is considered more reliable than the grave stone (photo) inscribed Oct. 17, 1897: "DIED: Carrie Durr, wife of John McMahon, Sunday morning Oct. 10, 1897, of consumption at the age of 20 years... THE TIMES extends sympathy to the bereaved husband and children." notes: 1) The children mentioned are James Henry McMahan Jr. (1895-1969) and Jennie Caroline McMahan (1896-2002). 2) Oakland Cemetery was renamed Pleasant Grove Cemetery between 1910-1920, according to Iowa Gravestone Photo Project "iowagravestones.org" 3) James McMahan married 2nd, Sarah Cooper May 25, 1898 in Elkader, IA. James and Sarah had five children.
