Mrs. Carrie Lesher passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lewis Prestin, Sunday, Aug. 17, and at the time of her death she had reached the age of 84 years, 11 months and one day. Funeral services were held at the home at 1:30 and at the Presbyterian church at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, with the Rev. Wayne C. Stauffer, pastor of the Methodist church conducting the ceremony. Appropriate hymns were sung by a quartet composed of Mrs. Marvin Friday, Mrs. John F. Buehler, Elmer O. Moe, and Leland Stauffer. Leland Stauffer sang as a solo, "Going Home" by Dvoark, with Mrs. W.C. Stauffer at the organ. Pallbearers were J.L. Bruce, M.H. Paul, R.H. Griffin, E.E. Stratton, Niles Neville and A.B. Traeder. Relatives and friends attending the services from a distance were Mrs. Clara Gruver and Mrs. Wilbur Eaton, Glidden; Mrs. Albert Ihle and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Gruver, Paullina; Mrs. Clara Free, Boone; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hurst, Sac City; Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Calberg and Ardythe, Schaller; Mrs. and Mrs. Han Lembke, Early. Caroline Gruver, the daughter of Daniel and Margaret Gruver, was born Sept. 18, 1856, in Clinton county, near Lost Nation, Iowa. She was the oldest in a family of five girls and four boys. She came to Sac county with her family as a young woman about 1880, living near Wall Lake. She was united in marriage to Jerry Lesher in Wall Lake on March 18, 1885. They lived on a farm south of Odebolt in 1904. Mr. Lesher passed away in Odebolt Feb. 3, 1916. Mrs. Lesher lived in Odebolt until August 1937, when her health failed. Since then she has made her home with her daughter and family. She was a member of the Odebolt Methodist church, which she faithfully attended as long as her health permitted. For many years she worked in the South Main circlet. She belonged to the Women's Relief Corps, being on of the first color bearers of that organization. She is survived by one daughter, Nora (Mrs. Lewis Prestin) of Odebolt; one sister, Miss Olive Gruver of Los Angeles; one brother, J.R. Gruver of Paullina; four grandchildren, besides many other relatives and friends. Taken from The Odebolt Chronicle 21 Aug 1941.
