CARRIE THOMPSON, 83, SUCCOMBS TUESDAY EVENING After a lingering illness of more than a years duration, Mrs. Carrie Thompson, past 83, passed away at the home of her son, George Thompson, northeast of Creighton, Tuesday evening at 9:30 o'clock. Mrs. Carrie Thompson, nee Caroline Mist, was born in Yorkshire, England, March 10, 1849 and was 83 years, 9 months and 23 days old at the time of her passing. With her parents she came to this country before she was three years old, they settling in Walworth county, Wisconsin in 1851. There she grew to womanhood and on November 1, 1871, was united in marriage to Andrew R. Thompson. The union was blessed with eleven children, four sons and seven daughters. In 1879, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Thompson with their family, then consisting of five children, two boys and three girls, moved westward from Wisconsin, locating in Butler county, Nebraska. Four years they lived there and with the exception of a year in Missouri, the succeeding years found them farming in northeastern Nebraska. principally in Thruston, Dakota and Dixon counties. Since the death of her husband eleven years ago at Leavenworth, Kas., Mrs. Thompson has made her home with her children, spending a greater part of that period in the home of her son, George. She was cared for there during her entire illness of over a year. Mrs. Thompson, having altogether lived over 50 years in Nebraska, may be counted one of the state's pioneer women. She endured the hardships and rigors of pioneer life in a new country. She was a member of the Episcopal church and exemplified the Christian spirit in her everyday life. Four children, George, Mrs. T.J. Bouck of Laramie, Wyo., Louis Thompson in South Dakota and Mrs. Mary Phillips of Winner, S.D., as well as a large number of grandchildren are left to mourn the passing of a mother and grandmother. The seven children who preceded her in death were Mamie, Blanche, Flora, John, Bessie, Bob and Kate. Funeral services will be this Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Creighton Methodist church with the pastor, Rev. R.B.E. Hill officiating.
