Description	:	Carolina Boese was born December 18, 1866, in a little village near Ostrog in Russia. Her parents were William Koehn and Katharine Nachtigal Koehn. When she was only eight years old, her father died. His passing brought much hardship to her childhood. Upon the confession of faith, she was baptized by the Rev. Tobias Unruh on October 6, 1883. Read More	Carolina Boese was born December 18, 1866, in a little village near Ostrog in Russia. Her parents were William Koehn and Katharine Nachtigal Koehn. When she was only eight years old, her father died. His passing brought much hardship to her childhood. Upon the confession of faith, she was baptized by the Rev. Tobias Unruh on October 6, 1883. Ten days later, she was married to John C. Boese by the Rev. John Schartner. In 1894, her husband brought her and their three children to America, the land where they had freedom of worship and freedom of opportunity. They arrived in Canton, Kansas, but made their home near Moundridge. From 1903 to 1913 they lived on a farm southeast of Burrton. Since then, their home was southwest of Halstead. Her husband passed away Sept. 27, 1931. This union was blessed with three sons and six daughters. One son passed away before reaching the age of one year. Another son, Tobias, died at the age of 43 years, in 1936. She leaves to mourn her passing: Susie Koehn, Helen Koehn, Marie Penner, Henry Boese, Nettie Boese, Elizabeth Boese and Adina Penner. Also, one daughter-in-law and four sons-in-law; thirty-four grandchildren and thirty-one great-grandchildren. Mother became critically ill three years ago. She improved some, however, the illness left her so weak that she spent most of the time in bed. She passed away October 2, 1943, reaching the age of 76 years, 9 months and 14 days. She always spent much time in prayer. Her prayers were not only for her loved ones, but also for those of whom she heard were in trouble. The last year, she prayed especially for those boys who entered "the Service." Several times she said that the Lord had given her great joy when she prayed for those boys. Mother went through much sickness, therefore she was unable to attend the church services very often. She found her greatest joy in singing hymns and talking about the love and power of God. To us, she was a living example of all that pure, true, noble and good. The Lord was good and did good in giving her to us for a mother; in leaving her with us so long, and in taking her from us so gently. Funeral services were held in the Burrton Mennonite church at 2:30 o'clock, Tuesday afternoon, October 4, with the pastor of the church, Rev. Arnold A. Epp, officiating. Mrs. J. D. Goering, Mrs. Emil Dalke, Albert Regier and Emil Dalke sang: "There Is No Night There" and "Im Himmel Ist Ruh." "Oh Where Is The Haven of Rest" was sung at the grave side. Pallbearers were her nephews: Robert R. Koehn, Paul L. Boese, S.2/C, Cecil Boese, Joe Penner, Don Penner and Leonard Koehn.
