Description	:	Caroline Lucile (Walkup) Carr went to be with her Lord and the love of her life, Clinton and her daughter, Carin Gaye on May 15, 2018, at the age of 89 years. Caroline was born February 10, 1929 on the rural family farm home northwest of York, Nebraska. She was the oldest of the four children of Claude and Lucile (Folts) Walkup. Read More	Caroline Lucile (Walkup) Carr went to be with her Lord and the love of her life, Clinton and her daughter, Carin Gaye on May 15, 2018, at the age of 89 years. Caroline was born February 10, 1929 on the rural family farm home northwest of York, Nebraska. She was the oldest of the four children of Claude and Lucile (Folts) Walkup. She attended a rural United Brethren Church “Shiloh”. She taught the primary Sunday School class and led the congregation’s singing. In 1942 a tornado took the church. The congregation found a church that wasn’t being used and moved it out to the foundation. She attended the Benedict Consolidated School through the fourth grade. Her dad bought a farm and they moved. She then attended Rural School District 85 for four years. She returned to Benedict High School her freshman year, where she graduated in 1946. That fall she entered York College, working towards a teaching degree. In the spring of 1947, the Rural School District 41 of York county needed a teacher, and Caroline answered their call. Her plan was to return to college; however, District 43 needed a teacher. She taught there for two years, 1948-1950. Teachers were scarce, so she taught at District 15 from 1950-1951. Once that school closed, she was able to continue at York College. That is where she met Clinton Carr. Caroline and Clinton were married July 6, 1952 at “Shiloh” Church. Caroline taught elementary school in Bradshaw, Nebraska 1952-1953. Clinton was enlisted in the Army during his summer school in July of 1953. Caroline joined him at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas in November of that year. She was able to enjoy sewing, embroidery, crocheting and knitting. Carol Le Ann joined their family in November 1954. Clinton received his discharge July 1955. The family moved to Clarksville, Arkansas for Clinton to finish his last year of college there, as York College had closed. He graduated from College of Ozarks in May 1956. He received his first teaching position in Emerson, Nebraska. It was there that Carin Gaye was born in 1957. She passed away July 1960. Caroline taught elementary school for several years in Emerson. In 1974 the family moved to Lyons, Nebraska. Clinton served as the Superintendent there for 9 years. She helped the Lyons Bethany Lutheran Church with sewing Lutheran World Relief quilt tops and sewed many banners for the church. At the age of 75, she started a ladies’ group, “Stitched with Love”. The women liked making small knitted caps, flannel receiving blankets and quilts for Mercy Medical Center’s Neonatal Care Unit in Sioux City, Iowa. She enjoyed her flowers and vegetable garden. She canned and froze the vegetables and fruits from the trees in their yard. She loved baking and had special treats for those who stopped by for a visit. She entered her flowers and needlework in the Burt County Fair for many years; she received many awards for them. Her church camp, Camp Carol Joy Holling, held quilt auctions every year; she liked making things that helped children have a good church camp experience. Caroline made a “Quilt of Valor” in 2016. It was given to a female veteran in Fremont, Nebraska who had served two tours of duty. She considered this a great honor. Caroline loved her family and neighbors. She wanted to personally thank all of those who loved and cared for her. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clinton; daughter, Carin Gaye; sisters-in-law, Margaret Walkup, Marie Wenstrand, Marion Felt; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Wenstrand, Lawrence Felt. Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, Carol Carr of Lyons; brothers, Wendell (Margaret) Walkup of York, Merrill (Shari) Walkup of Runnells, IA; sister, Shirley (Bill) Armold of Lincoln, NE; many nieces and nephews; many very good friends.
