Clinton was born Oct. 21, 1932, on the family farm NE of Wakefield, NE, to Grover and Selma (Backstrom) Carr. Clinton attended Wakefield School K - 2nd, then attended Glendale School, District #72 grades 3 - 8th, Graduating from Wakefield High School in 1950. Clinton was born Oct. 21, 1932, on the family farm NE of Wakefield, NE, to Grover and Selma (Backstrom) Carr. Clinton attended Wakefield School K - 2nd, then attended Glendale School, District #72 grades 3 - 8th, Graduating from Wakefield High School in 1950. He took piano and organ lessons from an early age. Fall of 1950-1953 he attended York College pursuing a teaching & music degree. July 6, 1952 Clinton married Caroline Lucile Walkup in Shiloh UB Church in rural York County. To this union two daughters were born: Carol LeAnn and Carin Gaye. On July 9, 1953, Clinton was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served as a Chaplain's Assistant responsible for organists, choirs and office work at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas. He received his discharge from the Army on July 9, 1955. York College closed while in the service so he finished his last year of college at the Collage of the Ozarks, Clarksville, Arkansas, graduating in 1956. 1956 - 1974 he was a Teacher, Principal and then Superintendent at Emerson, NE. During that time he worked to consolidate the Emerson and Hubbard schools into Emerson-Hubbard Community Schools. Summer 1960 he graduated from Wayne State College (MA in Education), 1972 completed a 6-year Specialist Degree in Education Administration. 1974-1983 Superintendent of Lyons Public School, Lyons, NE. 1983-1994, Lutheran Brotherhood Insurance Representative. 1984-2000 Burt County Superintendent of Schools (the last to serve in that position). 2000-2006 was Administrator for District 31 School until it closed. 1984-2011 he served the Burt County Fair as Superintendent of School Exhibits. For the past 6 years he was the site manager for the Lyons Apartments, Inc., USDA housing for the elderly. He played the organ for 4 churches in the area for many years. He served on the Oakland Mercy Hospital Board for over 30 years. Clinton was known as an avid recycler and for encouraging community recycling. Clinton enjoyed summer vacations at his sister's resort in northern Minnesota where he could relax fishing. He also liked pheasant hunting. In 1981 Clinton and his wife and daughter went to Sweden for 3 weeks meeting and visiting with family. There they participated in the first Family Reunion held by his Swedish relatives. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Carin Gaye; his parents, a sister, Marion and two brothers-in-law, Larry Felt and Kenneth Wenstrand. Clinton is survived by his loving wife of nearly 60 years of marriage, Caroline, his daughter, Carol Le and a special friend, Marcille Jensen, a sister, Marie Wenstrand, brother-in-laws Wendell Walkup, York, NE Merrill Walkup and wife Shari, Runnells, IA, sister-in-law, Shirley Armold and her husband Bill of Lincoln. Many nieces, nephews and friends. FUNERAL SERVICE: Saturday, March 24, 2012, 11:00 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church in Wakefield, Nebraska. BURIAL WITH MILITARY HONORS: Wakefield Cemetery, Wakefield, Nebraska VISITATION: Friday, March 23, 4-7 pm with family receiving friends from 5:30 - 7. MEMORIAL SERVICE at 7 pm all at Bethany Lutheran Church in Lyons, Nebraska. One hour prior to services Saturday at Salem Lutheran Church in Wakefield, Nebraska MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers memorials can be directed to the family
