Read More	Centerville Daily Iowegian and Citizen Saturday, January 5, 1924 In Memoriam Mrs. Caroline Fenton Caroline Virginia, daughter of John and Ruth Corder, was born in Oglaze, Oglaze county in the state of Ohio, May 21, in the year of 1844 and departed this life December 31, 1923, at her home, near the Chariton River church, Appanoose county, Iowa, aged 79 year, 7 months and 10 days. When eleven years of age she, with her parents, moved to the state of Iowa, locating near Iconic but soon after settled upon the farm where she resided till the summons came which called her home. In early life she gave her heart to Christ and by public profession of her faith in baptism, united with the Baptist church of Chariton River in the fellowship of which she continued to the end. As a servant of God her influence was such as to convince all who knew her that she believed all that she professed to believe and that Christianity was and is and ever will be the most sublime and glorious reality . In the home, in the community and join the church her influence was such as to convince the most skeptical that a true and steadfast faith in Christ is the most important and essential principle of life. Such was her influence as a Christian that all of the children God gave other accepted the Christ she loved and when the last roll is called she may answer “Here Lord are the children thou gavest me.” Because of her generous and unassuming hospitality she was known by a large circle of friends and no one could know her and not love her as a Christian, as a neighbor and a friend. September 7, in the year 1862. Sister Fenton was united in marriage with Stephen A. D Fenton who preceded her to the farther shore May 12, in the year , 1904. To this union were added nine children: five sons: James, Milton, Dennie and Daniel, all of whom reside in this community and Benjamin F., who died in childhood; and four daughters: Mellie, who departed this life June 27, 1923, Mesdames Hattie Ely, Belle Curtis, of Plano, Emma Hixenbaugh of Glenys, Wyoming, and forty-three grandchildren with nine great-grandchildren. The funeral service was conducted by Reverend A. W. Miller of Ottumwa, from the Chariton River Baptist church after which the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery near the church.
