Description	:	Daughter of William & Clara (Mansfield) Nelson. Her mother passed away when Carolyn was an infant, and she was adopted by her aunt and uncle, George and Amelia Vandenberg. Carolyn was raised in Montana and Spalding where she graduated from Spalding Academy. She married Francis "Mike" Bernt on October 17, 1953 in Spalding. They lived in Omaha, the Pibel Lake area and settled in Greeley in the early 1960's. Carolyn worked as the secretary for her husband's business, Spalding Restoration, until Mike's health failed at which time she became his sole caregiver. Carolyn was raised in Montana and Spalding where she graduated from Spalding Academy. She married Francis "Mike" Bernt on October 17, 1953 in Spalding. They lived in Omaha, the Pibel Lake area and settled in Greeley in the early 1960's. Carolyn worked as the secretary for her husband's business, Spalding Restoration, until Mike's health failed at which time she became his sole caregiver. She also worked as a secretary at Greeley Public School until poor health caused her to retire. When her health deteriorated, she moved to Columbus to be closer to her family. Carolyn enjoyed pheasant and quail hunting, fishing, watching the St. Louis Cardinals and Nebraska Football. She was an excellent seamstress and cake decorator.
