She was united in marriage to Eli Calvin Shields in 1899. They were residents of Willow township for thirty-two year after which they moved to Bristol township and upon retiring they moved to Jefferson. She was united in marriage to Eli Calvin Shields in 1899. They were residents of Willow township for thirty-two year after which they moved to Bristol township and upon retiring they moved to Jefferson. Mrs. Shields was preceded by her husband in death in 1938 at Jefferson. Since that time she has been living with her children. To the union of Mr. and Mrs. Shields were born twelve children. They are Mr James Shields, Clinton, Mrs W J Boyer, Forest City, Mrs Emma Maud Johnson, San Diego, Calif., Mrs Murl Brafford, Dow City, Mrs Russell Ball, Ames, Mrs. Lloyd Johnson, National City, Calif., Mr Harold Shields, Chula Vista, Calif., Mr Lester Shields, National City, Calif., Mr Calvin Shields, Palm City, Calif., Mr Romaine Shields, Chula Vista, Calif., and Mrs Pat Patterson, National City, Calif. An infant son Harry Alfred preceded her in death at the age of two years in 1921. Besides her eleven children she leaves to mourn her passing 32 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, three sisters Ida Backous, Jessie Bobo, and Bessie Fry, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. She became a member of the Baptist church in 1934 and was a true and faithful Christian until the last. She was a kind and loving Mother and friend and will be missed by all. Emma, Calvin, and Della were unable to attend the services. Pall bearers were six grandsons, Ralph Brafford, Russell Ball, Raymond Ball, James Shields, Jerry Boyer, Donald Boyer.
