Description	:	Mrs. Carrie Diana Carman, daughter or Ellias, and Kegiah Holliday, was born May 21, 1875, at, Mapleton, Iowa and died Wednesday, Feb. 11. 1959 at a Sioux City hospital following a short illness, at the age of 83 years, 8 months and 20 days. She was the 11th child in a family of 12 children. She resided in the Mapleton and Oto communities during her youth and taught school in the Mapleton rural schools. She was married to Charles F. She was the 11th child in a family of 12 children. She resided in the Mapleton and Oto communities during her youth and taught school in the Mapleton rural schools. She was married to Charles F. Carman July 4, 1896, at Onawa. Seven children were born to this union. After marriage, she and her family farmed and resided in Mapleton and Oto communities until 1946 at which time she moved to Sioux City where she resided for the remainder of her life. Mr. Carman died on July 4, 1936. Mrs. Carmen was a Gold Star Mother, having lost a son. Royal, in the Korean War. Survivors include two daughters; Mrs. Gilbert Hollister of Paullina, Mrs. William Peterson of Sioux City and Ariel V. Carman of Oto; one brother, Sol Holliday of Mapleton, 19 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by her husband, three sons and all of her sisters and brothers except one. Funeral services were held February 14 at the Walter Chapel with Rev. John Rogers officiating. Pallbearers were: Leo McDermott. Burt Ullrich. Harry Madsen. Lester Davis. Cecil Stratton and Fred Burgess. Burial was in the Smithland Cemetery under the direction of the Walter funeral home.
