Read More	Word has been received by Mrs. Carrie Carman of the death of her son M/Sgt. Royal G. (Jinks) Carman, who was killed in action Sept. 2, with the Second Division in Korea. Sgt. Carman was sent form the United States Aug.1 and had been in Korea only two weeks when he was killed. No details of his death were received by his mother in the telegram from the defense department. The youngest of six children born to the late Charles A. Carman and Mrs. Carman, Royal G. Carman was born November 7, 1917 near Smithland, Ia. He served in World War II, entering the United States army June 3, 1942 and was sent overseas September 21, 1942. Sgt. Carman spent 37 months in European theater of operation and was honorably discharged form the service November 1915 with the rating of Master Sergeant. Before reenlisting he was employed on a farm near Oto and later in Sioux City He reenlisted in November 1917 at Camp Sheridan, Ill. and was sent to Ft. Lewis, Wash. and then to Alaska for a short time. He returned to Fort Lewis before going to Korea, where he was killed in action on Sept. 2, 1950. While stationed in England during World War II he was married to Miss Joyce Chisholm, who has been in England with her parents for the past year. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Carrie Carman of Sioux City, tow brothers, Charles A of Sioux City and Ariel (Bill) of Oto, two sister, Mrs. Gilbert Hollister of Paullina and Mrs. William Peterson of Sioux City and a host of other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father and twin brothers, who died in infancy. This information was published by the Mapleton Press, Oct. 12, 1950. Funeral Services Saturday For Sgt. Royal Carman, 32 Military funeral services will be held at the -Smithland Methodist church on Saturday for M Sgt Royal G. Carman, 32, who was killed in action in Korea on Sept. 2, 1950. Time of the funeral is 2 p. m. and mllitaiy honors will be petformed by members or Henry V McKenna American Legion post 651 at Smithland. The body of Sgt Carman arrived at Mapleton and services will be directed by Byers-Walter Funeral home. Burial will be in the Smithland cemetery. Sgt Carman, who was serving with the 2nd Division when killed was the son or Mrs. Carrie D. Carman of Sioux City He had left the United States on August 4 of 1950 and had been In Korea only two weeks when killed. The youngest son of the late Charles F Carman and Mrs Carman. Sgt Carman was born November 7, 1917, near Smithland. He entered the army June 3, 1912 and was sent overseas Sept 21, 1912.
