Read More	Carrie Ethel Horton Davenport, daughter of Chauncey Evart Horton and Mattie Ann McWilliams Horton, was born October 1, 1911 in Hale Center, Texas. She was laid in the arms of Jesus on October 19, 2007 at the age of 96 years. Carrie attended country school in Clarke County and graduated from Osceola High School and received her Normal Training Certificate to teach. She taught school for over 19 years in the Clarke County area in Wildcat, West Concord, Barnard and Ward Center Schools. Carrie was united in marriage to Kenneth James Davenport, son of LeRoy and Bessie Vertz Davenport, February 28, 1942. Kenneth passed away in 1957 in a County related accident. To this union one daughter was born, Linda Ann Davenport Crawford. Devoted mother and grandmother, she was a mother, and yet she had to take on the role of father also. She had guidance from her father, "Grandpa Horton" with his wisdom and love, she raised her daughter. She couldn't have done this alone, but with his help and love from above, they made it. She loved her grandchildren more that anything. She dedicated her life to watching them grow and become loving adults and parents. They were a part of her life that sustained her through the years. She would attend all the football games for Brian, and never missed a dance recital for Susan. Front row, center seat for all the occasions. She was always there to tell them how proud she was of them and what they had accomplished. She adored watching the great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Cady, Jenna, Ashlyn, Brenden and Carley, play in her living room with toys from under the table. They always knew that "great-ma" had a cookie or treat in the refrigerator and she was always happy to share with them. If you ever stopped by her home to visit, she would show you all the pictures of the kids, not once but several times. She cherished her family. Carrie was always outside in her yard, as much as possible. She couldn't stand to have twigs and leaves in her yard and if you drove by her place, and she was outside, you never saw her face; it was head down and butt up! God's garden will not have a leaf or twig in the yard. She will have them all picked up. What a reunion they're having in Heaven now. Kenneth, Grandpa Horton, A. Cora, U. Don and the rest of the family. They've been waiting patiently for her and they're all having a wonderful celebration. Cora has probably stirred up some homemade lemonade and Grandpa Horton and Don are cranking the ice cream. Kenneth and Carrie are at last together. Kenneth is telling her about everything he's seen from heaven and Carrie is letting him in on details that he might have missed. The first time she held her grandson and granddaughter, and then how it felt to hold her great-grandchild in her arms, the smell of a new born babe and the sound of their sweet laughter. She told him of the look of trust and love that she saw in their eyes and the unspoken words of love that she communicated just through her touch. Anyone that knew Carrie knew a great lady. She was a lady that was not too quick to judge; a lady that gave you respect and unconditional love. Carrie was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; parents, C.E. Horton and Mattie; sister, Cora Horton King; brother, Don Horton. Those left to cherish her memory, daughter, Linda Crawford and husband Leland, grandson, Brian Crawford and wife Molly of Osceola; granddaughter, Susan Janssen and husband Ryan of Norwalk; great grandchildren, Gabriel, Cady, Jenna, Ashlyn, Brenden and Carley; sister, Opal Schaffer of Osceola; sisters-in-law, Dorotha Horton of Chariton and Jean Davenport of Osceola, along with a host of family and friends.
