Opal received her early education in the Clarke County Country Schools and graduated from Osceola High School. Opal received her early education in the Clarke County Country Schools and graduated from Osceola High School. She was united in marriage to Donald Orr Schaffer on June 7, 1941 at Princeton, MO and two children, Karen Marie and Karyl Ann blessed this union, of nearly 65 years. Opal began her working career teaching country school, for five years. Opal and Don started the first taxi service in Leon, IA, in the early 1950’s, before moving to Osceola. Opal worked several years as cook and as Head cook at East Elementary. She later worked as the Food Service Supervisor at the Clarke County Hospital, for several years, until her retirement. Opal and Don enjoyed traveling and wintering in Apache Junction, AZ, for a number of years, during their retirement. Opal loved to play cards, cook, and found time to garden. Watching her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews grow was the joy of her life. Those relatives who preceded Opal in death were her parents, husband, Donald Orr Schaffer; sister, Cora King, brother-in-law, Louis King, brother, Don S.
