"The Chico Enterprise, Tuesday Evening, December 19, 1944" MRS. CARRIE COLE, RESIDENT 50 YEARS, TAKEN BY DEATH Mrs. Carrie E. Cole, 79, a resident of Chico for 50 years, died at her home on West Fourth avenue early this morning after a long illness. In 1868 she came with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Amasa Spencer, around Cape Horn, and her parents started ranching in the Kirkwood community south of Corning. Later they moved to the Pine Creek neighborhood. In 1882 she was married to James Norman Cole in Chico, and they continued ranching until Cole's death in 1910. She was an active member of the Chico Christian church. Surviving her are a daughter, Mrs. F. M. Forrester, and three sons, Eber, Ross and Virgil Cole, all of Chico, and a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Wimmer of Anderson. There are also 24 grandchildren and 23 great-grand children surviving. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday morning at eleven o'clock in the Nugent funeral chapel, with internment in Chico cemetery.
