Description	:	Carroll Banks Hewitt, 80, died May 25 in Phoenix, Ariz., on his way to his granddaughter's wedding. He was born in Windsor, a son of Edwin and Ethel Banks Hewitt, attended schools in China, as well as Erskine Academy. He served in the 93rd Seabees during World War II and attended may reunions of his unit. Mr. Hewitt worked as a welder at Bath Iron Works for 43 years, retiring in 1982. He was born in Windsor, a son of Edwin and Ethel Banks Hewitt, attended schools in China, as well as Erskine Academy. He served in the 93rd Seabees during World War II and attended may reunions of his unit. Mr. Hewitt worked as a welder at Bath Iron Works for 43 years, retiring in 1982. He was an avid hunter and was well-known for his English setters and beagles. He was a member of the Waterville and Kennebec Valley beagle clubs. He also loved baseball and enjoyed watching all ages and leagues. He was a member of the First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, and the American Legion Post 54, both in Wiscasset. His grandson, David Jr., died previously. Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Flora Hiltz Hewitt; two daughters, Shirley Peverly of York and Barbara Gagnon of Damariscotta; a son, David of Newcastle; a brother, Maynard of Windsor; four granddaughters and a grandson. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Chadwick Hill Cemetery, South China. Arrangements are by Strong Funeral Home, Damariscotta. Portland Newspapers Jun 4, 1999
