Beth lived in Amarillo, Texas, from 1970 to 2014, after which she moved to central Texas to be nearer to her children. Beth was dearly loved and will be remembered for her dedication to her family and for her warm smile and positive attitude. Beth was born on March 17, 1931, in Wellington, Texas, to Lillian Merle (Billie) Howell Brookshear and John Virgil Brookshear, and spent most of her adolescence in Burkburnett, Texas. At 15 years of age, Beth's father bought her a horse, Redbird, and Beth excelled as a member of the Burkburnett Mounted Team of Square Dancers (Boomtown Mounted Quadrille). The horses were trained to ride at full gallop and, with split-second timing, to pass between the other horses in a figure eight formation. Beth was crowned Queen of the Burkburnett Rodeo in July 1948. The Burkburnett Mounted Team traveled all around Texas, as well as Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Kansas, and Tennessee performing at state fairs and at the famous Ft. Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. Beth was an honor student at Burkburnett High School, graduating in 1948. She attended Midwestern University in Wichita Falls, Texas, where she met Mack David Netherton from Maysville, Arkansas. Mack was a returning World War II veteran, having served with the 1st Division Marine Corps in the Pacific. Beth and Mack were married on May 21, 1950, in Burkburnett, Texas, and enjoyed a wonderful life together for 25 years until his death in 1975. Beth had five children in six and a half years, but was still able to find time to actively participate in and enjoy many activities, including being a founding member of the Arredondo Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Amarillo, Texas, in 1972 and serving as Regent from 1992-1995; serving as presiding officer of the Amarillo Genealogical Society; traveling to Scotland and studying Scottish history, customs and music and serving as President of the High Plains Scottish and Celtic Society; and serving as President of the Heritage Society for antique collectors. Beth was an avid genealogist, researching her husband's family, pouring over books, archives, courthouse records, and talking with family near and far. Beth was also a long-time, dedicated member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church (now Hillside Christian Church), where she was an active participant in the Women's Fellowship. Beth was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Netherton, and by her parents, Billie and Virgil Brookshear, and step-mother Artie Mae Brookshear. She is survived by her sister, Billie Virgene (Gene) Robinson of Katy, Texas. She is also survived by her five children: James Nicholas (Nick) Netherton (and wife Jane) of Meadowlakes, Texas; Paula Carol Clymer (and husband Dale) of Burnet, Texas; Peter Kirk (Pete) Netherton (and wife Pam) of Moore, South Carolina; William David (Bill) Netherton (and wife Margie) of Amarillo, Texas; and Bradley Neal (Brad) Netherton (and wife Patricia) of Austin, Texas; and by ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. A family celebration of Beth's life will be held in Maysville, Arkansas at a later date. Beth's ashes will be interred next to her beloved husband Mack in Maysville Cemetery.
