Frizzell received a telegram from the war department Tuesday telling them that their son, Maurice Frizzell, had died in New Guinea on August 13. No particulars were given in the telegram, but are expected later in a letter. It is not known whether or not Maurice was killed in action. Frizzell received a telegram from the war department Tuesday telling them that their son, Maurice Frizzell, had died in New Guinea on August 13. No particulars were given in the telegram, but are expected later in a letter. It is not known whether or not Maurice was killed in action. Maurice joined the army in February, 1943 at Fort Lewis, Wash., and from there he went to Camp Marshall, Hoffman, North Carolina, where he was a glider pilot in the 11th Airborne Division. He was 20 years of age, and graduated from the Silver Creek high school in 1941. Joe E. Tomolison of Texas, giving the circumstances surrounding Maurice's death: __________ Somewhere in New Guinea. Dear Folks: Well, I am going to try and tell you how Maurice met his death. I don't know hardly how to start out. We were on an overnight problem during Saturday and Sunday. It happened about 10:15 on Sunday morning. We were going through the jungles and there was another company on our left and they were firing, and bullets began to come over our heads. I just passed by Maurice and gave him a cigarette. The firing became worse and we all had to hit the dirt, but a stray bullet got him. That was on August 13. Maurice did not know he was hit. I will remember that day as long as I live because I gave him his last cigarette. A very memorable service was held for him in our Regimental Chapel the following Tuesday. The pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were men from his own Platoon. The full company was in attendance and there were many others. I am in the hospital with my stomach. I will close for now as I don't know hardly what to say. His death was a great shock to us all and that company doesn't seem the same anymore. If you ever find time drop me a line and I will answer.
