| Description | : | Carroll was the son of Charles Upshur and Winnie Virginia Swift of Marion, Maryland. He was the brother of Richard Charles, Ruth Virginia and Barbara Ann. He was the father of four children, Carroll Jr., Sandra Virginia, Charles Carroll and Patrick Carroll. He was a World War II Marine Corps veteran and fought in the Battle of Guadalcanal. After the war he worked as a construction and electrical contractor and helped build the Vehicle Assembly Building at Cape Canaveral during the Apollo missions. |
