He suffered greatly the past few months from the malady. Carson Daniel Herron was born January 1, 1860, at Belmont, Lafayette county, Wisconsin, and when a boy moved with his parents in 1874 to Hardin county, Iowa. He came to Plymouth county in the boom days in 1881, and bought land in Union township where he farmed until 1899, when he came to LeMars and lived here since. He was a member of a family of ten children and was the last surviving member of the group. Four of his brothers and a sister, coming to LeMars in the early eighties, completed their lives here and were widely known in the county. William and Frank Herron both served terms as sheriff, Frank succeeding William as sheriff when the latter was killed in a fall from a train while returning in course of his duty from Hinton to LeMars. Henry Herron, a twin brother of Frank was a farmer and later a banker in Kingsley. Elmer Herron, who farmed in Union township, was deputy sheriff under his brother Frank, and was in the livery business in LeMars with the late Dave Cunningham for several years. A sister, Mrs. Olivia Bunt, was the wife of George Bunt of this city, and she and her husband were prominent in the community many years. Coming to LeMars in the late nineties Carson Herron conducted livery stable for some years on the ground now occupied by Dr. F. W. Knoop. He later engaged in stock buying and was a land appraiser. Mr. Herron and his brothers were lovers of horseflesh and Carson Herron maintained a stable of thoroughbred trotters for some years and entered races in the circuits. Though driving an auto since the machine came into use Mr. Herron frequently lamented the passing of the horse. Mr. Herron was a shrewd business man. Possessed of sound judgment he acquired a comfortable competence. He was an agreeable man to meet and had hosts of acquaintances and many friends. He was married to Elizabeth Lee in LeMars, March 26, 1890. Four children were born to them. His eldest son, Lester Herron, was accidentally drowned July 30, 1922, and a son Raymond, died in childhood. Mrs Herron passed away August 27,1926. He is survived by his son, Lee Herron, of Minneapolis, and daughter, Mrs. E. S. Townsend, San Carlos, Cal., four grandchildren Mrs. Lucille T. Finlayson of San Francisco, E. C. Townsend of San Carlos, Cal., and Tommy and Carson Herron of Minneapolis, Minn. The funeral will be held at 2 pm. this Friday afternoon at the Mauer chapel, Rev. W. M. Hubbard of the First Methodist church officiating, and interment will be made in the city cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jos. Cook, George Bleil, Nate Goarke, Darrell Gralapp, C. W. Pitts and Laurel Paulin, Relatives here to attend the funeral are: Clay Herron of Birmingham Ala., Errol Herron of Union, Iowa, Mrs. Carl Mueller and daughter of Luverne, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. W. Beuttler of Sioux City, Mrs. Harold Galloway and and Mrs. Otis Gee of Lincoln, Neb.
