Caryl was born on July 13, 1913, in a farm home north of Beattie, KS, to John and Alma Anderson, who immigrated to this country from Sweden. Read More	Caryl Toedter, 98, of Marysville, Kansas, died Sunday, January 29, 2012 at Community Memorial Health Care in Marysville. Caryl was born on July 13, 1913, in a farm home north of Beattie, KS, to John and Alma Anderson, who immigrated to this country from Sweden. Caryl attended Beattie schools and graduated from Beattie High School. At the time of her graduation, she received the highest grade on the Normal Training Teacher's exam that had ever been received in the state of Kansas. Following graduation, she taught for two years at the one room Snipe Creek Elementary School. She attended the University of Kansas where she received her degree and Phi Beta Kappa honors in the spring of 1936. She remained a loyal Jayhawk fan and influenced many of her family and students to become Jayhawks. During her teaching career, Caryl was selected as one of twenty-five teachers in the country to attend the National Foundation for Mathematics at the University of Kansas. She did graduate work in modern mathematics at Emporia State and the University of Kansas. In 1941 Caryl was married to Wallace Toedter, who was a farmer, stockman in the Marysville area. During their retirement years, they took many trips and enjoyed traveling all over the world, including a trip to Sweden, to meet many of her relatives. Caryl had a strong Christian faith and was active in many church activities at the Marysville Presbyterian Church. She also participated in many civic and charitable activities. She and her husband, Wallace, established scholarship funds that have helped many local students meet their financial needs in college and will continue to provide scholarships in the future. She was proud of the students she assisted and kept a scrapbook with their pictures and accomplishments. Caryl dedicated her life to her husband, her students and her community. She was extremely proud of those she taught and continued throughout the years to share and celebrate their successes by attending their class reunions. One of her greatest joys was to have someone acknowledge that she had been their teacher and had influenced their life in a positive way. She will be remembered as a lady with style and grace. Her contributions to Marysville through her teaching and generosity, will have a lasting impact on the community. Preceding Caryl in death were her parents; her husband, Wallace; sisters, Elizabeth Campbell, Viola Dean, Ann Jones Garrett, Jennie Kupfersmith; and her brother Elmer J. Anderson. Surviving her is her sister, Esther Wetzler of Marysville; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, February 2, at Memorial Presbyterian Church, Marysville. Burial will be at the Marysville City Cemetery.
