Description	:	On Friday Morning, March 15, at three o'clock, at the home of her son Theodore at Holy Cross, occurred the death of Mrs. Catherine Schmitt, an estimable resident of that community. About three weeks ago while in church during the mission which was being held at Holy Cross, Mrs. Schmitt took sick, and on account of the long distance from her home she was taken to the home of her son Theodore. A physician was sent for and it was learned that she had but a short time to live from that time on and she passed to her eternal... Read More	On Friday Morning, March 15, at three o'clock, at the home of her son Theodore at Holy Cross, occurred the death of Mrs. Catherine Schmitt, an estimable resident of that community. About three weeks ago while in church during the mission which was being held at Holy Cross, Mrs. Schmitt took sick, and on account of the long distance from her home she was taken to the home of her son Theodore. A physician was sent for and it was learned that she had but a short time to live from that time on and she passed to her eternal reward surrounded by her beloved children, on the date mentioned above. Deceased was a devout Catholic, a loving mother and a kind and generous neighbor always willing to help others when it was in her power to do so. She is survived by five sons and two daughters, Nicholas, Theodore, Mrs. Mathias Konzen of Holy Cross, Mrs. Charles Hess of Luxemburg, Frank of Bankston, Anton of New Hampton and Peter of Caledonia Minnesota. The funeral took place on the following Sunday morning to Holy Cross church and was one of the largest seen there for some time. The pall bearers were Mesers. Wm. Gotto, Nicholas Berg, Nicholas Ruden, John Steffen, Peter Schmitt and Thomas Lucas. Michael Schmitt, of Ralingen, Germany also settled in this area. He arrived in the U. S. on the same ship as Peter Schmitt. Michael Schmitt is not related to either Peter or Nicholas Schmitt. However, Michael Schmitt and Angeline Keil Schmitt, the wife of Nicholas Schmitt, have a common ancestor. Therefore, the descendants of Michael and Nicholas are related. Michael Schmitt married Catherine Theilen June 4, 1853 in Dubuque Co. They purchased land to farm in NW ¼ NW¼ section 4 of Iowa Township. That parcel joined Peter Schmitt's land in Concord Township. Michael and Catherine Schmitt had nine children. Most married and settled in Concord Township. Also, the three Schmitt families are members of the Holy Cross and Richardsville Catholic Churches
