Four years ago while blooming into womanhood, with buoyant spirits and the hue of health upon her cheek, none would have supposed that she was soon to be the victim of disease and the tenant of an early grave. But death pursued her with his venomed dart, the poison drank her life, and by a slow decline she has at last sank into his cold embrace. Her sufferings were great, but borne with Christian fortitude; and though the casket crumbled to decay, the jewel it contained became more radient as it was fitted and prepared to sparkle in the Saviour's diadem. Long before death every doubt and fear was dispelled, and with the full assurance of a Christian's hope she would say, "It was sweet to die. I am going home." When the summons came, with joy we saw her enter Jordan's swelling tide; we saw the far reaching look of wonder as her eyes first gazed upon the celestial hills, and we too, as we watched her, felt that we caught a glimpse of light from the golden city, as it flashed over her countenance in radiant smiles, exclaiming, "Glory! glory! glory!" as she passed away. We mourn her loss, but not as those without hope. We rejoice that one more loved one is added to that innumerable throng around the Throne, who have washed their robes and made them white in Jesus' blood and woes. Safe in the garden of the living God. Bathed by the fountains that unceasing flow, Midst amaranths springing from the fragrant sea, Our flower transplanted shall immortal grow. O'er that blest land no chilling wind can sweep, And frost and blighting mildew cease to mar, The radiant skies with tempest never weep, But softly beams the bright, the morning star.
