She was born at Keosauqua on July 7, 1935, to Hugh and Grace(Metz)Baker. She married Bill Crist on July 17, 1955, at Keosauqua. Catharine attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She was born at Keosauqua on July 7, 1935, to Hugh and Grace(Metz)Baker. She married Bill Crist on July 17, 1955, at Keosauqua. Catharine attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She taught fifth grade at Keosauqua, then she had her family and returned to teaching kindergarten at Harmony Community School at Bonapart and Farmington. She finished her BA degree at Iowa Wesleyan College while raising a family and teaching. She followed Bill with his job to Davenport in 1982 and taught elementary school at Durant Community School and did some substitute teaching. Catharine and Bill went to Prescott Valley, Ariz., for a few winters and moved there for a short time. She was active in the Harmony Education Association for many years. She was a member of the Keosauqua Mothers Club, the DAR, PEO, Eastern Star and the Keosauqua United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir. She is a member of St. Johns UMC in Davenport. Catharine enjoyed her family and friends. She enjoyed researching her family genealogy, gardening, sewing, traveling and camping. Catharine was always the teacher. She enjoyed teaching new things to everyone. Catharine and Bill are parents of four children, Keith(Patty)Crist of Agency, Tom(Debi)Crist of Elyria, Ohio, Mary(Terry)Wilson of Davenport and Craig(Teri)Crist of Ankeny. They have nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one stepgrandson; and a foreign exchange son, Paolo(Laura)Aversa and their son, Andrea, of Rimini, Italy. Funeral services will be 10 am Saturday at Weerts Funeral Home. Private burial of cremains will be in Miller Chapel Cemetery in rural Keosauqua. Visitation with family present will be 2-4 pm Sunday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua. A visitation will be at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, from 4-7 pm Friday. Memorials to Good Samaritan Center-Davenport or St. Johns United Methodist Church.
