Mrs. Kiefer had been a sufferer of arthritis for the past five years and her condition became worse by the sudden death of her husband, who passed away nine weeks ago. She was born in Mahaska county, October 30, 1880, the daughter of Valentine and Anna Flander Redlinger. She was rearer and educated in the schools of Keokuk county. On February 10, 1903, she was married to John Kiefer at the Ss. Peter and Pauls church. After making their home in various parts of Keokuk county they moved to Talleyrand, where Mr. Kiefer purchased the Talleyrand store, which he operated for 23 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, who died April 15, 1952, three brothers, who passed away when small children, two brothers, Nick and Peter Redlinger, and two sisters, Angela Braunhausen and Elizabeth Redlinger. She is survived by two daughters, Sister M. Paulette of Fremont, Nebraska, and Mrs. Richard Hammes of Sigourney; seven sons, Paul of Waukegan, Illinois; Clifford of Rock Island, Illinois; Leo, Zeno, William, Clarence and Raymond of the Talleyrand community; 19 grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Peter Fritz of Pleasant Plain; four brothers, John Redlinger of Harper; Matts Redlinger of Washington, Val Redlinger of Omaha, Nebraska, and William Redlinger of Los Angeles, California.
