Description	:	Catherine Noecker Backman, 90, Yankton and formerly of Crofton, NE., died December 15, 2002 at the Avera Sister James Nursing Home, Yankton. Funeral services are at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Crofton, with Rev. Bob English officiating. Burial will be in the St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Crofton. Pallbearers, will be Jay Noecker, Robert Coors, Mark Krueger and Matt McCunn. She was born April 13, 1912, in Crofton, to Herman and Grace (Kobold) Hegge. They moved to Hartington, NE., in the 1960's and then back to Crofton three prior to his death, June 15, 1980. She married Florian Backman September 1, 1982, and they moved to Yankton. He died October 1, 1990. After her second husband's death, she required nursing home care and has resided at the Sister James Nursing Home since. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton, and was a former member of various church and women's organizations. She is survived by one son, Charlie (Shirley) Noecker, Lynn Center, IL.; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and several step-children. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, two sons, three sisters and three brothers.
