Mrs. Menzel, who was in her 86th year, had been in failing health for some time abut was able to get around until about a month before her death. The deceased was the former Catherine Oliver, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Oliver, of Whitfield, in Mulmur Township, and was the last surviving member of a family of 11. She received her high school education in Orangeville and later entered the teaching profession. While teaching in the Muskoka district she met and married Alexander Menzel in 1886 and they made their home at Sparrow Lake where her husband passed away in 1913. Mrs. Menzel then spent some time with her sister, Mrs. Whiteman, of Mono Mills. Later she moved to Orangeville and her niece, Miss Eleanor Bowers, came to live with her and cared for her aunt during the latter’s declining years. A staunch Presbyterian, Mrs. Menzel was a member of Tweedsmuir Memorial Church, Orangeville. She is survived by three nieces and one nephew. The funeral service was held on Tuesday, June 19th, from the chapel of H. P. Darraugh, 2nd Ave., to St. John’s Cemetery, 7th Line, Mono. Rev. J. F. Nute conducted the services and the pallbearers were Jos. Varey, Thos. Maxwell, Sam Patterson, Harry Anderson, Ray Collins and Jos. Anderson. The beautiful floral tributes were from Eleanor, Annie Speers and family; Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Mudie; Collins and Anderson families; Mrs. Hannah Oliver; Joe, Madge and Danny; Mr. and Mrs. Walder and Bruce; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Anderson and Mr. and Mrs. Joffre Bell; Margaret and Alice.
