Description	:	SUTTON- Sutton resident Catherine Ruth (Yost) Griess, 93, died Sept 22 at the Sutton Community Home in Sutton. Services were Sept 27 at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton with Rev Dan Rogers officiating. Interment was in the Sutton Cemetery. Mrs Griess was born March 20, 1915, on a farm located north east of Sutton called Farmers Valley. She was the second to youngest daughter of the late Conrad E Yost and Christina (Pope) Yost. Mrs Griess was born March 20, 1915, on a farm located north east of Sutton called Farmers Valley. She was the second to youngest daughter of the late Conrad E Yost and Christina (Pope) Yost. She was baptized on Sept 11, 1915, at the home of her parents by Wilhelm Norenberg. On March 24, 1929, she was confirmed by Reverend C F Schmidt at the Evangelical church in Sutton. She attended Dist. #1 in Hamilton County finishing the 8th grade.On Sept 1, 1936, she was united in marriage to Wilbert C Griess at her parents home at Farmers Valley. They were blessed with four sons and two daughters, Glen, Joleen, LuDella, Earl, Reom and Arlo.They farmed there for 10 years before moving to Clay County where they continued to farm before moving into Sutton in 1965. She then drove a bus for Sutton Public School for 13 years and then for 6 1/2 years bused children for ESU #9 of Hastings.She was a lifelong member of the Salem United Methodist Church. In 1991, Catherine and Wilbert transferred to Emmanuel Reformed Church. She was a member of the Ladies Aid Society and past member of the Sutton Garden Club.In 1993, along with her husband, they moved to Good Samaritan Village in Hastings. She was a member of the Good Samaritan Village Auxiliary and the Silver Bells. Her husband passed away July 8, 1996. In 1999, she moved to the Kensington Assisted living. In 2004, she returned to Sutton Assisted Living. In 2005, her care increased so she moved to the Sutton Community Home.Survivors are her two daughters: Jolene (Robert) Scheierman of Phoenix, Ariz. and LuDella (Dean) Yost of Sutton: two sons: Reon (Margie) Griess of Surprise, Ariz and Arlo Griess of Fairmont; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; four step grandchildren and nine step great-grandchildren; one sister Donna Rediger of Lakewood, Colo.; three sisters-in-law; Lenora Hofmann of Greeley, Colo., Margaret Fehr of Lincoln and Minetta Coover of Scottsbluff; many nieces and nephews and special friend Jordan Erickson.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons: Glen W Griess and Earl Michael Griess; brother Irvin Yost; sister Laura Weber; granddaughter Sherrie Lynn (Griess) Shaffer; grandson Terry Glen Griess; three great-grandchildren, one who was named Christian Michael McGill.Clay County News (Sutton NE) Oct 2, 2008
