Read More	Bio Courtesy Wendy McIntosh (#47554298) Catherine WILLYOUNG NIES Obituary After an illness of nearly one year, Mrs. John Nies died Saturday, October 7, 1911, at her home in this city, having attained the age of 73 years, 6 months and three days. During the last three months of her illness she was confined to her bed and although suffering, intensely bore her affliction with patience. The end came peacefully. Mrs. Nies was a woman of lovely character, unselfish disposition, and her love for home and family proved her right to the crown of true womanhood as a faithful wife, loving mother and devoted companion. Her days were filled with activity and her happiest moments were spent in doing for others. Catherine Willyoung was born at Bosselhausen, (Geisweiler), Alsace-Lorraine, Germany, April 4, 1838. At the age of two years she came to America with her parents and her girlhood was spent in Erie county, New York. On June 15, 1858, she was married to John Nies at Lancaster, N.Y, nine children being born of this union. Seven of these survive her, namely, Mrs. D.C. Wilson, Oakdale; Mrs. W.H. Terwilliger, Cheyenne Wells, Colo.; J.H. Nies, Meadow Grove, Neb.; Mrs. Julia Trube, Plainview, Neb.; Geo. E. Nies, Oakdale; S.I. Nies, Neligh; Mrs. A.T. Bickford, Oakdale. She is also survived by a twin sister, Mrs. Mary Blessing of Dakota City, Neb., and a brother Christian Willyoung of Michigan, nineteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. In 1867 the deceased came to Nebraska, locating in Dakota county, and in 1878 removed to Antelope county, assisting in the establishment of a home on a farm three miles northwest of Oakdale. With her husband she removed to Oakdale in 1899 and the city was her home to the time of her death. Funeral services held at the home Tuesday afternoon and were largely attended. The sermon was preached by Rev. G.W. Snyder of the Oakdale Methodist Episcopal church and a quartet from Neligh, Mrs. R. Rice, Mrs. S. Ritchie, G.A. Sellery and C.E. Ward, with Miss Edna Thompson as organist, furnished the music. The pallbearers were J.S. Stringfellow, C.B. Beerr, H.W. Dunham, W.R. Launt, W.A. Elwood, C.D. Bon. Interment was made in the Oakdale cemetery. Relatives extend sincere thanks to neighbors and friends who in any way assisted during the long illness and burial of Mrs. Nies.
