He was born Feb 9, 1989 in Mahaska County, the son of John C. and Mary Van Zee Vroom. He was a farmer and a carpenter. He married Jennie Dykstra in 1916. To this union, two daughters and one son were born; Mary Jane (Mrs. Ernest) Blom of Pella. Verniece (Mrs. Henry) Grotveld of Fremont, and John Edwin Vroom of Pella. He later married Ruby May McNeil on Jan. 8, 1946 in Newton, who preceded him in death. Besides his daughters and son, he is survived by one stepdaughter, Mary Ann Worthy of Oskaloosa; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Cornie Vroom of Leighton. He was preceded in death by his parents, both of his wives, one daughter, and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Rev. Lillian Dean officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Leighton. Memorials may be made to Hilltop South in Pella. The Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
