G. Chittenden last Sunday morning came as a severe shock to every citizen of kent and surrounding community. Funeral services were held from the Chittenden Funeral Home in Kent Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock and burial was made in the Kent cemetery. He was regarded as Kent's most-loved citizen and every Kent business house was closed Tuesday morning as a tribute to a friend and public benefactor. Long before the hour scheduled for the funeral service the chapel was crowded to capacity with friends and admirers. Hundreds of others stood in the streets and sidewalks, heads bared, paying their last respects to their departed friend. So great was the crowd that state highway patrolmen, asisted by local police, were necessary to direct traffic. The chapel was literally banked with hundreds of beautiful floral offerings. The sermon was preached by Rev. N. M. Jones is regarded as one of the most beautiful tributes ever offered in Kent. He was assisted by Rev. George Abbott. Mr. Chittenden had been in poor health for the past year and a half and several days ago returned to his home after spending two weeks in a Seattle hospital. He rapidly grew worse and passed away early Sunday morning. He was 54 years old. Pallbearers were George Berlin, H. M. Shaffer, B. T. Coleman, I. W. Bush, Sidney Boucher, W. E. (missing section) Cecil Glenn Chittenden was born July 28, 1879 in Decatur, Illinois, the son of Dr. and Mrs. Andrew H. Chittenden. He came to Kent from Minnesota in 1906 where he and his wife, Mrs. Gertrude A. Chittenden lived continuously since their arrival. He had been a mortician since he was 18 years old. He was a past president of the Washington State Funeral Directors association, first president of the Kent Kiwanis club, past president of the Kent commercial club, served as a city councilman and school board director, and for more than 20 years as a deputy county coroner. He was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge, the Masonic lodge and an Eagle. Surviving besides his widow are; three sons, Glenn H., Robert A. and Edgar A. Chittenden; a granddaughter, Robin Chittenden of Kent and his mother, Mrs. Josephine Chittenden and sister, Mrs. Fern Bronson of Renton."
