Description	:	The death of Mrs Cecile J. Chatburn Tinsley 91, one of Shelby County's pioneer citizens, closed a chapter of the history of the Chatburn families whose lives have been recorded in the Shelby County History. Mrs. Tinsley, who would have been 95 December 22, was born Cecile J. Chatburn, daughter of Jonas W. and Mary Chatburn, in 1858 at Magnolia, Iowa. Mrs. Tinsley, who would have been 95 December 22, was born Cecile J. Chatburn, daughter of Jonas W. and Mary Chatburn, in 1858 at Magnolia, Iowa. Cecile was the only survivor of this pioneer family until her death August 3, 1953 at the Florence Home in Omaha, where she moved from Harlan several years ago. She married Alfred D. Tinsley November 10, 1881 and they lived for many years in Sioux Falls and Deadwood, South Dakota. The couple had no children. Mr. Tinsley, with the U.S. Brown was the founder of the Harlan Tribune, which was first launched June 11, 1879. Tinsley purchased Brown's interest in 1880, and in 1882, sold it to E.T. Best. When Mr. and Mrs. Tinsley lived in South Dakota, they were active in civic movements. Mr. Tinsley was a leader of the Women's suffrage movement. After his death, his wife returned to Harlan where she lived for many years until entering the Florence Home. She was a member of the Episcopal church and the Order of the Eastern Star. Many nieces and nephews survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her brothers and sisters; Thomas, Jane, Mary Ellen, John, George. Funeral services were held August 6, at Pauley's funeral home with the Rev. Earl Johnson, pastor of the Episcopal church in charge. O. E. S. services were conducted by the local chapter. Burial was in the Harlan cemetery.
