Read More	Alton Democrat (2-10-1966) Born: November 6, 1910 Died: February 7, 1966 RITES AT ALTON THURSDAY FOR MISS CELESTA STEICHEN The family and many friends of Miss Celesta Elizabeth Steichen, 55, were sadly shocked by her unexpected death Monday morning February 7 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Sioux City. She had been in the hospital for observation and treatment for about twelve days, having been troubled for some time with gallstones. Her passing came while she was on the operating table awaiting a minor operation on the thyroid gland, and was apparently caused by the action of the anesthetic. She had especially requested that her family not be present, since the operation was not considered serious. Funeral services will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Thursday morning at 10:00 o’clock A.M., Rt. Reverend Monsignor Reising officiating. A wake was held at the Fisch Funeral Home, Remsen, Tuesday night and at St. Mary’s Parish Center Wednesday night. Miss Steichen was born November 6, 1910 on the family farm 5 ½ miles southeast of Alton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Steichen, and she lived her entire life on the home farm. She attended St. Mary’s School in town. Her father died in 1941 and after her mother moved into Alton, Celesta and her sister remained on the farm to keep house for their brother. She was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Guild devoted to her home and family. Survivors include her mother, Mrs. Louise (Langenhorst) Steichen, brother, Earl and two sisters, Viola of the farm household, and Mrs. Lawrence (Margaret) Klein of Hospers.
