She taught school in Carbondale and North Fairview School in Shawnee County. She and her husband farmed in Valley Falls. Charlene married George E. Shepard on August 15, 1948 in the E.U.B. Church at Richland. He survives. Other survivors include their children, Nancy (Jerry Senne) Shepard, Larry (Sue) Shepard, Tom Shepard, Mike (Dawn) Shepard, Becky Shepard and Sallie (Tom) Meyer, 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and her sister, Joan (Rod) Ramsey.
