Charles Aaron Kirnan was born Feb. 6, 1916, at Wetonka, S.D., to George E. and Mathilda (Carlson) Kirnan. This is the area where he attended school. He remained on the family farm until he was an adult. In 1942, he went to Hanford, Wash., where he worked at the Hanford Plant for E.I. Dupont until 1943, when he returned to the Aberdeen area. Charles married Frieda Carolina Steinwand on March 17, 1946, at Ellendale, N.D. He worked for Nash Finch, drove the Aberdeen city school bus, worked for the High Grade Oil Company and in 1949, began working for K.O. Lee, where he worked for 29 years until the time of his retirement in 1978. They continued to make Aberdeen their home. Charles became a resident of ManorCare Health Services on Dec. 15, 2005, where he was residing at the time of his death. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. He was also an avid hunter. Survivors include his wife, Frieda Kirnan of Aberdeen; three daughters, Sherry (Randy) Kaup of Lincoln, Neb., Lori (Dave) Munk of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Tami (Steve) Herron of Groton, S.D.; and five grandchildren, Chris and Andy Beiswanger, Ryan Kaup and Cody and Zach Herron. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Loretta May; and two brothers, John and Edward; and one granddaughter, Kelsey Jo Herron. Casketbearers will be Andy Beiswanger, Ryan Kaup, Tom Bretsch, Larry Kirnan, Greg Kirnan and Dan Schinkel. Honorary casketbearers will be Chris Beiswanger, Cody Herron, Zach Herron, Art Dahme and Mike Felix. Published in the Aberdeen News on 3/3/2006.
