Wallace was born August 26, 1876, near Marne, Cass county, Iowa, and died at his home south of Fontanelle March 10th, aged 50 years, 6 months and 22 days. United in marriage to Miss Cora E. Wood March 8, 1905. Five children were born to this union. Donald E., Melvin C., Edith L., Vernon W. and Ethel Irene at home, who with his wife are left to mourn the loss of a devoted husband and father, also three sisters and two brothers, his twin brother, Frank, having preceded him in death about nine years ago. Those surviving him are Mrs. Jennie South of Massena; William Wallace of Greenfield; Mrs. Clara Dwyer and Tom Wallace of Orient; seventeen nieces and nephews and numerous relatives, friends and neighbors. Mr. Wallace's sickness was of short duration. He was taken to a hospital at Des Moines February 6th for two weeks and afterwards returned home and continued to lose strength until death claimed him. Owing to the ill health of his father after the age of 18 years Charles assumed the responsibility of the family and made a home for his father, mother, brother and sister until the time of his marriage ten years later. Mr. Wallace never united with any church but he expressed himself to a neighbor last September that he was glad his children were attending Sunday school and church and hoped that they would unite with the church and wondered if he ought to urge them to do so He was a hard working man, stood for what was right. As a neighbor he stood ready with a hand to help when called upon. Funeral took place Saturday afternoon at the Pleasant Grove Congregational Church south of Fontanelle. Rev. Owen Thomas officiated. Mrs. Ollie Hoskens read a beautiful poem. The following persons sand four beautiful hymns: Mrs. Melvin Pote, Mr.s Giff Seeley, James Wellson and Orville Dunkerson. The casket was covered with beautiful flowers. A large number attended the funeral. Interment was made in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
