Read More	Charles A Bard Passes Away Was Pioneer Resident and Business Man of Creighton After an illness of several weeks duration, Charles A. Bard, pioneer and respected resident of Creighton and Knox County, passed away at his home in West Creighton at 8:20 o'clock Wednesday morning, May 16, 1928, having reached the age of 71 years, 3 months and 18 days. Death was attributable to influenza and complications. For the past two weeks his condition has been critical and all that medical science, skillful nursing and loving hands of the family could do were performed in his behalf, but he was unable to combat the disease and his system gradually grew weaker until the end. Charles Alfred Bard was born in Aneboda, Sweden, January 28, 1857. He immigrated to America with his parents in 1867, being at that time 10 years of age. The family first settled at LaPorte, Ind. Here on April 20, 1872 he was confirmed in the Swedish Evangelical Lutheran church. On April 28, 1881 he was united in marriage to Mary Svenson and to this union eight children were born, three of whom preceded him in death. Those living and who are with the widow to mourn are; Barbara, Denver, Colo.; Martin J., Sioux City, Iowa; Aaron E., Chadron, Nebr.; Abel E., San Antonio, Texas and Mrs. Geo. S. Jewett, Omaha, Nebr. Edith, the eldest, passed away November 1, 1916. Carl Edwin and Roxanna died in infancy. Mr. Bard resided at La Porte, Ind. until 1884 when together with his family he removed to Knox county and where he has since continuously resided, the greater portion of the time at Creighton. He was affiliated with the I.O.O.F. and W.O.W. lodges. For many years Mr. Bard operated an implement establishment in Creighton, but for the past several years he had been engaged in the plumbing and heating business. In all his dealing with his fellow man he made an unmistakable mark of integrity. Mr. Bard in manner was quiet and unostentatious, but possessed the faculty for making and retaining many friends. He was a skillful mechanic and showed great aptitude for the work he followed. Through all the years, he struggled forward, honest and upright and his passing leaves a memory of his true self, both in the family circle and community, which time cannot efface. He is survived by the widow and the five children and also by two brothers and three sisters who are Mrs. Albert Holtberg, Omaha, Nebr.; Andrew Bard, LaPorte, Ind., Mrs. J.W. Morey, Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. Anna Bard Sutley, Joplin, Mo. and Otto Bard, Ganado, Texas. Funeral services will be in charge of the I.O.O.F. lodge of Creighton at the M.E. church on Friday, May 18, at 1:30 p.m. Rev. E.N. Littrell will preach the sermon.
