I'm sure that I have the correct draft registration card because he lists himself as a farmer being in veterinarian school. Dr. Charles Allahn Palmer D.V.M. was the son of Jesse Edward Palmer and Lilla May Luke Palmer. He married Lilla Rachel Clark on September 1, 1917 in Albia, Monroe, Iowa. He along with his wife and parents moved here in the late 1920's. They can be found in Iowa in the 1925 Iowa State Census. In 1930 they are found in Florida. They had at least two children: Charlotte Jane Palmer Campbell (1918 – 2008) and John Edward Palmer (1923 – 2005). The photo of him as a baby was taken about 1900 at the home of his grandfather Jesse Palmer. This is a section of a much larger family photo that I have. He was a son of Edward Palmer and graduated from Albia High School and the college of Veterinary medicine of Iowa State University. He married Lilla R. Clark, also a native of Monroe county. Obituary from the Albia Union Republican February 18, 1960 Dr. Charles Allen Palmer Dr. Charles Allen Palmer, son of Jesse Edward and Lilla May Luke Palmer, was born Dec. 6, 1895, at Frederic in Monroe county and died Jan. 26, 1960, at the University of Florida Medical Center after an extended illness caused by hardening of the arteries. Dr. Palmer was a 1920 graduate of Iowa State University at Ames, receiving a degree as a doctor of veterinary medicine. He practiced eight years in Iowa before going to Florida, where he worked with the Florida State Health Department and lived at Orlando. He opened a practice in Gainsville, Fla., where he established and operated a veterinary clinic. He served the Florida State Veterinary Medicine Association as vice president and president. During World War I he enlisted in the veterinary reserve corps and in World War II was appointed a Civil Air Patrol pilot. He was a member of the Methodist church and was a member of Elks, Rotary, Haisley Lynch American Legion Post, and Masonic Lodge. His parents and an infant grandson, James Edward Palmer, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Lilla Rachel Clark Palmer; a son, John Edward Palmer of Ft. Pierce, Fla; a daughter, Mrs. Ernest (Charlotte) Campbell of Gainsville; seven grandchildren; and a brother, Dr. Mark E Palmer of Potosi, Fla.
