Parents were George F. Smithline and Lucinda C. Ross both born in Iowa. The Vancouver Evening Columbian, Vancouver, WA., January 4, 1926, page 1 MAN KILLED BY RUNAWAY TEAM Charles Alvin Smithline, well-known former of the Manor district, was almost instantly killed Saturday afternoon at 3:45 when thrown from a wagon loaded with wood when his team became frightened and started to run away. The wagon passed over Smithline's body and his skull was crushed by the ticking of the frighten the horses. The accident happened near the Smithline home. Smithline, who was driving, was thrown from the wagon falling between the horses and the front of the wagon. The horses ran on down the road a short distance and were stopped by Mrs. Smithline, who happen to be a short distance away. The two Smithline children, who were on the wagon with their father were also thrown from the wagon but escaped all injuries. A neighbor, George Homer, was working in a nearby field and rushed over to help but before he could reach the scene of the accident Smithline was dead. Funeral services were held this afternoon at 1:30 at the Knapp Funeral parlors. Rev. J.L. Garrett officiated, and interment was in the Wilson Bridge cemetery. Besides his wife, Mrs. Pearl M. Smithline, surviving relatives include three daughters, Evelyn, Arlene, and Nadine, three sons, Clair, Elbert and Kenneth, all at home, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George F. Smithline, also of the Manor district; one brother, Ross of Portland, and four sisters, Mrs. Pearl Leeper and the Misses Adda and Jessie Smithline at home and Mr. W.E. Sherrill in California.
