Born June 28, 1921, in Bedford Valley, Pa., he was the son of the late Rufus Doyle Nave and Mary Elizabeth (Daehler) Nave. Born June 28, 1921, in Bedford Valley, Pa., he was the son of the late Rufus Doyle Nave and Mary Elizabeth (Daehler) Nave. Mr. Nave was a 1939 graduate of Allegany High School, attended Allegany College, and served with the U.S. Army Air Force from 1942 to 1946 in the China-Burma-India theater of operations. He is a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church; Past Worshipful Master and member of Ohr Lodge 131 AF & AM; past patron and member of McKinley Chapter 12 Order of the Eastern Star; Ali Ghan Shrine Temple A.A.O.N.M.S.; Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, S.J.; Fort Cumberland Post 13 American Legion; Cumberland Lodge 63 B.P.O.E.; Grand Chapter of Maryland, Order of the Eastern Star; Past Matrons and Patrons Association; Shrine Club Ritualistic Unit; American Association of Retired Persons; Allegany Country and Western Dance Club; past president of the Belles ŒN Beaux Square Dance Club; coordinator for the A.A.R.P. Tax Counseling Service for Senior Citizens; Order of Quetzalcoatl; charter member of the City Bridge Club; member of the Stock R' Us stock club; Fire Marshals Association of North America; Building Officials Code Administrators of the Upper Ohio Valley; and the International Association of Firefighters Local 1715. Mr. Nave retired from the Cumberland Fire Department in 1983 with 28 years of service. Also, he was a deputy state fire marshal, official fire inspector, and was credited with starting one on the first residential fire safety surveys in the country and the program was published in many national publications including Fire Command and Fire Engineering in 1980. This was presented by Mr. Nave as part of the Governor's Statewide Fire Prevention Conference in April 1980. Surviving are a wife, Geneva Carrie (Lewis) Nave, Cumberland; a son, Dennis Arthur Nave and wife Sandra, Hagerstown; two brothers, Carl Harvey Nave and wife Elsie and Robert Eugene Nave, all of Cumberland; a grandson, Brian Arthur Nave and wife Marcy, Hagerstown; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Stephen F. Yelovich officiating. Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap. Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
